The original plan was to stay the night at the hospital to ensure pain was manageable before going home. However, Eli had other plans. With a nerve block in place, his need for meds was minimal and he just wanted to go home. We all wanted to go home. So, that's what we did. After …
Annoying Head V
Warning: graphic photos If surgery photos bother you, don't scroll too far. I'll put graphic photos at the end of the post, following the picture of Eli and the birds. We were up not as bright and early as we should have been, since we had to deal with rush hour traffic, but once we …
Life 2 – Mom 76
I've been playing basketball with some ladies in the neighborhood. It's been fun and gets my heart rate going. Last night, my upper right arm/shoulder was a little sore by the end of the game, so I had Adam massage it a little before going to bed. I woke up around 2am in a lot …
Planning for Surgery
We met with Eli's surgeon yesterday to discuss the foot tumor resection. He showed us scans from November And one from a couple weeks ago: The white blob between the 4th & 5th metatarsals is the tumor. Chemo has done a good job of shrinking it. Yay! The surgeon will remove what's left of it …
Happy Feet
After spending the last couple weeks praying that Eli's foot tumor would shrink all the way or enough that it could be resected, I heard from the radiation oncologist that the tumor has shrunk enough that the surgeon would like to resect it. This will reduce the radiation dosage needed by 40%. Yay!
Make a Wish
One of the things we learned the week of Eli's diagnosis was that any child, within a certain age range, who is diagnosed with cancer, regardless of whether it's terminal, qualifies to receive a wish from the Make-a-Wish foundation. Even before his diagnosis was official, Eli learned that if he had cancer, he would get …
Feet
Eli's birth announcement has been hanging on our fridge for a few months. I think I found it on the floor and put it up (how it got on the floor, I couldn't say). This was one of the more fun announcements we've done. I never thought that his feet would ever be a problem. …
Long day
Yes, this is the second post of the day and we are still at the hospital, waiting for the last scan (this was written about 7pm). A clear scan of Eli's foot will make today's happiness complete (of course we won't have the report today, so I'll assume that no tumor is left in his …
Scans
Eli has been receiving scans again last week and today. We received the results from his leg/pelvis MRI and the tumors are gone and most lymph nodes are dramatically smaller in size and within normal limits, except one pesky lymph node of a suspicious nature. Yay! We'll finish the foot MRI later today. In the …
All about ports
When Eli had his biopsy to confirm his cancer diagnosis, the surgeon put in a port. It is a device inserted under the skin through which his chemotherapy medications can be administered. It can also be used for imaging contrast, which is what we are using it for today for an MRI that will help …
