Gratitude

I spent most of today dealing with medical bills that have accumulated in the last month and a half. I had been too busy doing fun things with Eli and the kids and researching treatment options to bother with such mundane concerns.

The biggest frustration was trying to get some billing mixups fixed, so I could finish paying what we owe so far. While I was able to make progress, it wasn’t my favorite way to occupy my time, but needed to be done.

After dinner, I was relaxing for a bit with Adam. Over the course of less than an hour, from family, a friend, and an unknown source, we received contributions towards Eli’s list that will cover most of what was still needed for climate control and a power source for Eli’s workshop, and the rest of what we needed to get San Diego zoo tickets for the rest of the family.

I am humbled by the kindness and generosity of those around us, near and far. I had talked with a couple friends recently about how God seems to know what I need, even when I don’t, and provides it through people. It’s not always in the form of money, although sometimes it is. It usually starts with my preoccupation on some matter or another, some sort of difficulty I’m trying to sort out, or a moment of despair, when the phone will ring or someone stops by the house, and suddenly, the difficulty is solved or my mood is lifted, and I realize that, once again, God has shown His love and I know He is aware of me and, as in the past, He moves heaven and earth to care for my needs.

When I told Eli about the latest generosity and means through which his wishes are being granted, he said, “It’s too much”. Sometimes I feel that way, too, but I’m grateful for the assistance in achieving Eli’s wishes. He is grateful. Our family is grateful.

Thank you.
